XVIII International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists

The traditional XVIII International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists on the Economy of Bulgaria and the European Union: Inflation, Fiscal Consolidation and Sustainable Development under the patronage of the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov was held in the Large Conference Hall.

The Forum is organized by the Finance and Accounting Faculty of UNWE in partnership with the University of Finance, Insurance, Business and Entrepreneurship /VUZF/, University of Bologna, University of Split, University of Rijeka, Poltava University of Economics and Trade, Lutsk National Technical University, Lodz University of Technology, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje.

The Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov opened the event and emphasized: "This conference has become a tradition for our university and it is held for the eighteenth time as a forum for young scientists. It has become an important platform for the discussion of relevant issues, such as the topic The Economy of Bulgaria and the European Union: Inflation, Fiscal Consolidation and Sustainable Development. It is very important for young and experienced scientists to exchange opinions and ideas without the danger of politicizing the topic. The function of economists and economic science is to provide a basis for the right policies and decisions, to help find the right answers in a given context and historical situation. I am confident that the papers and discussions during the Conference will contribute to find solutions to cope with the economic challenges, overcome the effects of rising inflation and outline options for sustainable development".

Prof. Dr. Rumen Brusarsky, Dean of the Finance and Accounting Faculty welcomed the participants in the Forum and noted. “This conference, organized traditionally by our faculty has once again taken the pulse of the times. The inflation and fiscal consolidation in the current environment are among the most significant, most fundamental challenges. Sustainable development is a long-term objective but in the context of these challenges it takes on a certain specificity that deserves attention. I am confident that the reports included in the programme will attract interest and that there will be a respectable public response".

"The Finance and Accounting Faculty has always been close to its students. It is a pleasure for me as Chairman of the the Student Council to attend a conference at such a high level, together with lecturers who wish to develop the potential of our colleagues through such forums", said the Cahirman of the Student Council at UNWE Ilian Chabukliysky and added: "Let today's conference and celebration of the Finance and Accounting Faculty set the beginning of new ideas that will lead to the development of all four areas which will be debated at the Conference".

We have a wonderful partnership with the College of the UNWE, which bears its fruits in the form of different scientific production, which is beneficial for our students, and I believe for everyone - for the business and state institutions. Prof. Dr. Manyu Moravenov, Executive Director of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, also greeted the participants in the Conference and pointed out: "It is a great pleasure for me to be at the University one year after the Bulgarian Stock Exchange and UNWE signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. This memorandum bears fruits. There are many students working on various programmes with our market participants, including some of them already work at some of the investment firms attached to the stock exchange. The topic of today's Conference is very interesting. I am sure that many answers to questions of importance for the business development will come by the the universities and by the so it is very important for the business to be close to the universities".

"In the face of the Finance and Accounting Faculty I know an academic community that is highly motivated to create science. I wish you in the future to continue to love science in yourselves and not yourselves in science as well to solve with great dedication those problems in which Bulgaria has to catch up with ideas, to charge the policy and economic development for the benefit of society", said the President of the Union of Economists in Bulgaria Prof. Dr. Tatyana Hubenova-Delisivkova and noted: "I am glad that the topic of the Forum is in line with the spirit of the times, because the world is recognizing these issues in a new manner and the very combination of the choices you have made - inflation, fiscal consolidation and sustainable development - shows the readiness of the academic community to provide answers to important civilisational issues that the economic science solves at a contemporary stage".

Dr. Andrey Ilievsky from the American University, Skopje, who is part of the Program Committee of the Conference, also greeted the participants. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the Forum and outlined that the topic is extremely relevant and young scientists are the pioneers of innovation. According to Dr. Andrey Ilievsky the innovation is the key to the success of the economies in the region and the work of the Conference will contribute a lot to the development of science in this direction.

This event has become a truly significant international university forum. And as the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov said this Conference is a trademark of the University and the Finance and Accounting Faculty. More than 50 participants from various universities in the country and abroad participate in the current edition. I am particularly proud that we have participants in both Master's and Bachelor's degrees and I welcome the representatives of VUZF, St. Climent Ohridsky University of Sofia, Neofit Rilsky Southwestern University, Blagoevgrad and various financial and economic institutions", said Prof. Dr. Sylvia Trifonova, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference and Vice Dean of the Finance and Accounting Faculty.

On behalf of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Atanasov, Chairman of the National Statistical Institute /NSI/, Greeting Address to the Forum was delivered by Dr. Svilen Kolev, Deputy Chairman of NSI. Greetings to the participants were also addressed by Prof. Dr. Tanya Yosifova, Chairman of the Arbitration Court at the Bulgarian Industrial Association Chamber and Angel Kraychev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Bulgaria /ICPA/.

The organizers and participants in the Conference also received numerous greeting addresses from partner universities, state institutions, business and NGO representatives.

The Conference continued with papers and discussions on thematic areas with accents on the Financial Policy, Financial Markets, Banking, Investments, Insurance and Social Security, Accounting Policy and Practice, Accounting Standards, Financial Audit, Control Systems and Internal Control, Research and Science, Research and Development, Science-Business Link, Innovation, Competitiveness, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Management, Marketing, Corporate Control and Business Development in Bulgaria, in the EU and Globally.

The Finance and Accounting Faculty Celebrated Its 70th Anniversary with International Scientific Conference

With an International Scientific Conference "70 Years of Finance and Accounting Faculty of UNWE" was celebrated the anniversary of the one of emblematic Faculties of UNWE. The event was held under the patronage of the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov.

At the presidium in Maxima Aula were the Rector Prof Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Prof. Sylvia Trifonova, Vice Dean of the Finance and Accounting Faculty, Prof. Dr. Rumen Brusarsky, Dean of the Finance and Accounting Faculty, Prof. Dr. Rumiana Pozharevska, Chairperson of the General Assembly of the Faculty, Tsvetan Tsvetkov, Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, Angel Stoykov, Chairperson of the Student Council /from the left to the right/.

The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies, Prof. Dr. Stoyan Stoyanov, Chairman of the General Assembly of UNWE in the period 2011-2015, Prof. Dr. Daniela Feschian, Chairman of the Control Council of UNWE and Deputy Head of the Accounting and Analysis Department, Prof. D.Sc. /Econ./ Virzhinya Zhelyazkova from the University of Finance, Business and Enterpreneurship /VUZF/, Assoc. The Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov declared that "these 70 years from the history of the Finance and Accounting Faculty are time of academic progress and dedication of several generations of lecturers and scientists. Their work is an emanation of the Bulgarian science, academic conscience and moral. Many young people purposely choose to obtain their education and feature their professional path at the Fculty, which is an evidence for the quality of education they obtain." The Rector emphasized that the Finance and Accounting Facultty as part of the UNWE academic family will always be in the leading position as a creator of standards in education and science.

Prof. Dr. Rumen Brusarsky, Dean of the Finance and Accounting Faculty, reviewed the historical roots and development over the years of the Free University of Political and Economic Sciences, successor of UNWE. He also reminded the changes that have occurred over the years. Focusing on the present moment Prof. Brusarsky introduced to the audience the lecturers and the specialties and also paid attention to the international cooperation.

Tsvetan Tsvetkov, Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, said that "the Finance and Accounting Faculty has become a Bulgarian emblem for academic and professional preparation, creating a community of many thousands of accountants, financiers and auditors who are prepared to creatively solve the problems of the present and the future in the private and public sector. Adequate and quality education, knowledge of new technologies - this is the certificate for your noble mission".

"70 years is an age worthy of respect and during all these years the Finance and Accounting Faculty has been more and more confirmed and has continued its succession", said in his greeting Angel Stoykov, Chairperson of the Student Council. "The Finance and Accounting Faculty has the difficult task to work with knowledgeable, capable and ambitious students. In my work with students, I notice that the most active students are from this Faculty. The task of the lecturers is difficult because these students make them being active and to have a high level and I also notice that the lecturers are not embarrassed by this fact."

Prof. Dr. Andrey Zahariev, Dean of the Faculty of Finance, "D. А. Tsenov" Academy of-Economics - Svishtov, pointed out that "the achievements of the Faculty of Finance and Accounting during these 70 years have the marks of dedicated efforts, high professionalism, conscious responsibility to the native science and they are a reason for professional pride and satisfaction. We are sincerely glad to your successes because it is a conquest of Bulgarian education whose prosperity is our concern and destiny."

Prof. Zahariev gave as present to the Rector the textbook Financial Theories and said: "together we prove that we can create an added value" and appealed to financiers and economists to be business enlighteners

Prof. Dr. Stoyan Prodanov, Head of the Department of Finance and Credit, "D. А. Tsenov" Academy of Economics - Svishtov, also greeted the Faculty on the ocassion of its anniversary and wished the lecturers creative courage as well as to continue to following successfully the path of science.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Grigorii Vazov, Executive Director of VUZF and former Dean of the Finance and Accounting Faculty, shared that he has lots of memories from that period. "Thank you for being here providing the higher education a high level."

Boyko Kostov, Chairperson of the Management Board of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Bulgaria, said that namely at the Faculty he had acquired the knowledge and abilities necessary for his future career development. "Congratulations for the professionals that the Finance and Accounting Faculty provides. Indicative for the quality of their education is the fact that the largest number of chartered accountants and registered auditors are from the UNWE."

On behalf of the Union of Economists in Bulgaria Prof. Dr. Tatyana Hubenova-Delisivkova, Chairperson of the Union's Board, emphasized that "the UNWE has gained the authority of the most prestigious institution for financial and accounting education due to many notable names of lecturers and graduates of the Finance and Accounting Faculty who have worked and still work for strengthening the Bulgarian institutions in the interest of socio-economic development".

"I am pleased that a genuinely fruitful collaboration has been established between the Department I represent and the Departments of the Finance and Accounting Faculty. We are united by a number of common ideas for the development of financial science and economic university education in our country", said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elena Stavrova, Head of the Department of Finance and Accounting, "Neofit Rilsky" Southwestern University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sl. Genov, Head of the Accounting Department of Economic University – Varna: "During this transition full of dynamic changes, the achievements of the Finance and Accounting Faculty have contributed to the consolidation of educational and scientific values."

Greetings from the attendees in Maxima Auditorium were also addressed by Prof. Dr. Hristina Nikolova, Head of the Department of Economics of Transport and Energy: "The Finance and Accounting Faculty is a leader not only in the national but also in the European education.

The Dean of the Finance and Accounting Faculty Prof. Dr. Rumen Brusarsky awarded honorary plaques for the development of the Faculty to the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Prof. Dr. Snezhana Basheva, Head of the Department of Accounting and Analysis and Prof. D.Sc./Econ./ Georgy Petrov, long-standing lecturer at the Department of Finance.

The scientific papers were organized in 4 sections: Financial Intermediation and Financial Markets, Financial Management, Fiscal Policy'/ Accounting Policy, Analysis and Standardization / Management Control Systems, Audit, Tax Control and an international section.

Moderators of the Conference sections were Prof. Dr. Silvia Trifonova, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanaska Filipova-Slancheva, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Victor Yotsov and Chief Assist. Dr. Toma Donchev.

17th International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists

"The Economy of Bulgaria and the European Union: innovations and transformation" was the topic of the Seventeenth International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists, which is traditionally held under the patronage of the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov.

The forum is organized by the Faculty of Finance and Accounting of the UNWE in partnership with the Higher School of Insurance and Finance (VUZF), University of Bologna, University of Split, University of Rijeka, Poltava University of Economics and Trade, Lutsk National Technical University, Technical University of Lodz, University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, as well as Media Marx Ltd, Sofia, Bulgaria.

The Rector Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov opened the event with greetings to the organizers and participants. "It is always a pleasure to participate in such a conference where young scientists are the leaders. The fact that the event is taking place is a sign that we are not giving up and moving forward, despite the restrictions and problems. Firstly, I should point out that there will be no merger of universities and it will not be possible to unite our scientific achievements in such an academic way with other universities, but we do this through conferences and through projects that are going on all the time. The conference is important because it is an university conference with many colleagues from other universities, with traditions and with serious research. Our role is not always clearly seen by the public, but it is not only to educate students, but also to do research and to show the results at such events. We have a contribution to society, science, the economy, and it should not be lightly ignored.”

Prof. Sivaram Vemuri, Director of Human Economics International, Australia, presented research innovations in a post-COVID environment. He considered what is needed to transform the research process to find innovative solutions for sustainable post Covid-19 live. According to him current research does not adequately address the multidimensionality of concerns of both the individual and society in the post-COVID-19 environment. The question was raised as to why research to date has not provided adequate responses to society's challenges of simultaneously ensuring health, well-being and economic prosperity at the individual and societal levels. Prof. Vemuri highlighted the need for changes to transform research processes in the university and to develop initiatives to encourage a research culture to promote a sustainable growth mindset among researchers.

This scientific forum is being held for the seventeenth consecutive time, and the published scientific results from the previous sixteen conferences prove the significant potential for the future professional development of young scientists. The format and organisation of the scientific event are aimed at creating an atmosphere conducive to dialogue and exchange of ideas between the different levels of the academic community.

The event was also open to undergraduate and graduate students presenting their research interests and studies. Students had the opportunity to participate in sessions and discussions with distinguished faculty, scholars, policy makers and business representatives.

Over 40 papers were presented at the conference in thematic areas focusing on "Financial Policy, Financial Markets, Banking, Investments, Insurance and Social Insurance"; "Accounting Policy and Practice, Accounting Standards, Financial Audit, Control Systems and Internal Control"; "Research and Science, Research and Development, Science-Business Linkage , science-business, Innovation, Competitiveness, Project Management"; "Entrepreneurship, Management, Marketing, Corporate Control and Business Development in Bulgaria, in the EU and in Bulgaria".

The conference proceedings will be published in the Central and Eastern European Online Library (CEEOL).

16th International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists Focuses on the Challenge COVID-19

The 16^th International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists on the Bulgarian Economy and the European Union: the COVID-19 Challenge was held online in the platform MS Teams on February, 12^th, 2021. The event was organized by the UNWE Finance and Accountancy Faculty under the patronage of the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov. Co-organizers of the Forum were the University of Finance, Insurance, Business and Entrepreneurship /VUZF/, University of Bologna, University of Split, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, University of Rijeka, Poltava University of Economics and Trade, Lutsk National Technical University, Lodz University of Technology and Media Marks Ltd., Sofia, Bulgaria.

The Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov greeted the participants in the Forum saying: `This Conference is an evidence that we are focused on the COVID-19 challenge. The organizers made great efforts to prepare the Forum without reducing its quality. We, at the UNWE, do not complain of the hard conditions, we find a way and solution through the means of modern information technologies to cope with the challenges`.

The Rector of VUZF Assoc. Prof. Dr. Grigorii Vazov – major and longstanding co-organizer of the Conference, shared that he had opened and prepared lots of forums but he had always felt most excited to participate in the opening of that Conference devoted to the young scientists. He reminded that its beginning had been set up in 2002 facing lots of resistance and mistrust. "We had about 10 – 12 reports and now I am really happy that the reports are 82 from many university faculties and international participation".

The Dean of the Finance and Accountancy Faculty Prof. Dr. Rumen Brusarsky wished success to the 16^th International Conference of Young Scientists and defined the creation of scientific product and its sharing with other people as very respectable.

Prof. Dr. Silvia Trifonova shared her contentment with the event saying: It`s an honour and privilege for me to be Head of the Organizing Committee of that prestigious international Conference of UNWE for the 16th consecutive time. It is the first event devoted at the very beginning only to young people. It turned into a trademark of the UNWE Finance and Accountancy Faculty, commented Prof. Trifonova.

In the Conference took part more than 100 participants from Bulgaria and abroad. In the event in the current year reports were delivered by young people from the UNWE, BUZF, New Bulgarian University, D. A. Tsenov Economic Academy - Svishtov, Economic University – Varna, Neofit Rilsky South West University, Medical University – Sofia, Military Medical Academy – Sofia, Paisii Hilendarsky University of Plovdiv, Agrarian University – Plovdiv, G. S. Rakovsky Military Academy, etc.

In the Conference took also part Mrs. Sonya Spasova /in the picture above/, Director of the European Consumer Center – Bulgaria, who told about the Center objective and activities. She presented the topic Safety Online Shopping in the EU and emphasized on the major objective of the European Consumer Center – to work towards the out-of-court solution to disputes.

The Conference topics were divided to 4 thematic fields:

Financial policy, financial markets, banking, investment, insurance and social insurance
Accounting policy and practice, accounting standards, financial audit, controlling systems and internal control
Research and science, R&D, the relation science – business, innovations, competitiveness, projects management
Entrepreneurship, management, marketing, corporative control and business development in Bulgaria, EU and in a global scale.
